Hello. Thanks for taking some interest in me and my music. Music has played such an important role in my life that I couldn't begin to tell you just how important it is to me. There were a few years when it was not a part of my daily life and I remember them as being some of the years where I felt like I didn't grow as a person. Music helps me define who I am. Gives me a platform to express all the junk that goes on inside me and opens the trap door and lets it out. Anyway. Music falls into several categories for me personally. I play in a band called Echo Grove. Me and the same three other guys have been playing off and on... mostly on... since I was 12 years old. For those of you doing the math... lets just say that is more than 25 years at this point. Music was a way for me as a kid to seperate myself from the rest of the kids who just had dreams. I have always tried to make my dreams be reality in one way or another. With varying degrees of success and commitment. My childhood music experience was one that really helped me grow and gave me an identity seperate and apart from just being some other kid in school. The story of my band experience is all pretty well detailed on the Echo Grove website. So if you would like to know more about it... go there! In the past few years I have been working on my OWN music more and more. The band tends to stick with a formula that works for us. I have brought a few songs to the band with some success, but generally my music isn't really about Echo Grove. My music tends to be more mellow, certianly more on the sappy side, and generally more acoustic and folk/country-ish. I have several that are formula rock songs, but those tend to be the exception. I have been working on a "solo" CD now for almost 2 years. As is the case with most things I do, I tend to lose focus a little somewhere about 3/4 of the way through the process. However, I plan to finish this. So stay tuned. Recently, I have been working on some children's music that goes with a children's book I am writing and illustrating. It is something I have been wanting to do for a long time. This project is also in sort of a state of limbo as it is under review by publishing companies for possible publication. Because of that, and because of their inevitable changes if it does get bought, I have turned down the heat on finishing that project so that I can better react to any modifications and changes a buyer may have for it. So, enough of all that... Here are some details that you may or may not care about: Instruments I Play Guitar: (both electric and acoustic including 12-string... I own about a dozen) Bass: (I can hold my own here, but I stress that I am a GUITAR player with a bass!) Keyboards: Like most musicians, I tend to plunk around on the piano and other keys. I am probably better than the average joe but not very good by musician standards. Vocals: I try. Of course it is kind of important as a songwriter to be able to convey your songs and melody ideas via voice. I would say that I am a better backing vocalist than a lead vocalist. I do have a pretty good range so when i do backing vocals I can hit the harmonies and be where I need to be note wise. Drums: I play the guitar player's beat perfectly... boom boom cha boom boom cha. Kazoo: I could have gone to Berkley on a Kazoo Scholarship...if only they would acknowledge the instrument. |
